I had a software issue with a Verizon product and the rep had me do a hard
reset. He then had me do a hot sync, but did not have me do a change on the
computer from PDA overrides desktop, hence when the blank PDA was hotsynced,
it wiped all the data on the desktop. I tried using the System REstore
Wizard, and I even got a message that it was successful. But the date did
not come back to the desktop/PDA icon. Help!!! Emergency!!!

# 1 Please don't multipost to more than one newsgroup. (The other post in
Microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics)
# 2 If you don't have a backup for the PDA files, the data is lost. When
the PDA overwrote the desktop the desktop information is physically deleted
from the file and is not recoverable. Once you type in all the information
again from your paper records, make sure you have a good backup.

System Restore is good for XP only. It may wreck 3rd party apps. At least
it did so for Trend anti-spyware (can't find spyware definitions), HP
printer software, and NAV 2004 at boot time for me. XP, itself, worked fine
for me.
I ended up restoring an earlier image of XP to fix it.
