I'm not following this instruction: "you would save the project to
the DV-AVI choice in the drop down list of Other choices when saving the
movie."

when I do a Save Project As, Save type as, the only option I'm given is:
Window Movie Maker projects.

I need my file in AVI format. thanks in advance!

Movie Maker can't burn a CD or DVD that will play in a stand alone DVD
player... so for either one you need to use other software. Use your saved
movie as the input file to that software.

==================================

Don't select "Save Project As"...this creates
a .mswmm project file that is only compatible
with Movie Maker.

Follow the following steps:

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

When I create a subtitle overlay to display over a clip and then insert
other
clips before the one with the subtitle the subtitle does stay with
theoriginal clip - it stays the same place on the the Title Overlay
timeline.

It won't stay with the clip, it stays on the same place where you first
dropped it. You can either drag the sub-title clip to its appropriate
place
or do all of your video edits first and then add the titles. Anything
you
put on the Titles/Overlay line will not move with the video/audio above
it.

I would just like to ask, how can you make your picture to fit the screen? I
can't fond anywhere to do this. And also I have uploaded my video and it came
out very fuzzy. Can you tell me how to make my picture to fit and how to make
it un-fuzzy?

"ocean" wrote:

Why is WMM so poorly made that it crashes more often and regularly then the
sun comes up in the morning? This REALLY needs to be paid attention to and
fixed, along with the user-unfriendly design chosen by microsoft in only
allowing to save to wmv and HUGE avi files which take forever and a lifetime
to create and save - allowing we even have enough disc space left over to
save them due to the deliberately userunfriendly save to media options in
wmm.
So after spending many, many days and 6-15 hours during these days trying
to create a simple movie file from captured video from my minidv video camera
that should / could have only taken maybe 2 friggin hours if the program
wasnt designed with such proprietary greed and in available output formats
(wmv & giant sized avi) and dealing with constant, literally every minute
freezing from wmm when trying to do the simplest of tasks such as sending a
small jpg file or avi file to timeline or selecting a transition effect.
So now Im trying to simply save this project into a movie file, i initially
selected the greedy hog dvavi setting to save to which, for a mere 37 minute
file with minimum transition effects and only one tiny added audio file
started showing like 989999 minutes remaining (while increasing this time to
complete as i watched it supposedly saving the file to a file useable to
archive to dvd and or at least to start to have it in some movie format so
its not lost).
Too many frustrating, precious, unreplaceable & valuable time and energy has
been wasted by microsoft wmm crashing, freezing and erasing or "losing" my
edited save movie projects - so that when ive restarted wmm and attempted to
open saved projects it instead brings up the images of the clips in my saved
projects - but not really! Instead they all are the shape of the clips but
white with big red X in the middle of the shell of each clip of mysteriously
"unsaved" projects.
Why WMM doesnt make it simple, effective & easier (which microsoft could
easily do if they cared at least as much about integrity, honor and others as
they do about greed, money and selfishness under the guise of egalitarianism)
to use stable, reliable, versatile software and save our projects into truly
archival standalone media files and directly dvd authoring formats like mpeg,
etc with harddrive, memory and userfriendly / conscious, file size formats!?.
Im pretty fed up with the amount of inherent, completely unneeded
cumbersomeness, perpetual crashing, and resourcehogging / way too much tiime
consuminness of these programs. And this MyDVD software being touted by wmm
sites is telling - as i have that software program and its utter garbage!
Hardly works for anything, and its layout, designs and options as well as
actual reliability to burn is kindergarden level. Atrocious and a waste of
precious time as often as not.
So here i am still watching the "saving movie..." minutes still rising ...
at 132802 minutes AND RISING STILL - to save my project to an estimated 558MB
file format to playback on computer small size. As at this point at least to
get the thing to save at all so all is not lost AGAIN after hours upon hours
upon hours upon wasted bloody hours of using this bloody faulty program when
it should could have only taken an hour or two instead of going on a week and
a frigging half due to such instability and GARGANTUANLLY HUGE file size
options we are forced into saving into tiny narrow range to use by microsoft.
And my computer works fine otherwise. I also just ran scann disc and
defrag from before startup (i forget what thats technically called when ran
below normal windows operating mode) and have about 10 gigs of harddrive
space. Which should be way more then enough space to save, edit and do
convert a measlly 40 minutes of digital video footage from this wedding im
trying to save and burn into dvd movie.

I've been editing a Windows Movie Maker project. Thing is it only saved
it
as
a WMT.tmp or TMP file and not WMM file. Any ideas how to find and open
it
again?

Do you know how to import a WMT.tmp or TMP file into Windows Movie
Maker?
I've been working on a project that apparently was only saved as a WMT
file!
I've been having a prob saving the video I'd edited. Every time I went
back
to carry on with the edit I have been clicking on the 'File' drop down
list
of most recent project files, which then opened up the project for
editing
ok.

Only now I realised that it didn't seem to be saving as a normal
Windows
Movie Maker file or .MSWMM file, but only a WMT.tmp text file!

As a possible indicator of probs, a pop up box kept popping up saying
'Windows - Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low', and system was expanding to
resolve the prob, on several occasions. Is this a RAM issue? Not enough
RAM
maybe? I currently am running on 512Mb RAM. I suspect as it was only
saving
project as a TMP file, this related to the fact it was limited to a
certain
file size. I guess!

I tried to see if deleting some older WMM project files might help.
With
doing this though, I couldn't then find the project file I was editing,
as
it
obviously had disappeared from the most recent project file list (from
the
'File' drop down menu), being replaced by the most recently accessed
files -
the ones I accessed in order to delete. I therefore lost the shortcut
the
drop down list from 'File' menu was using to import the project. Really
don't
think I deleted the project file itself. Looks like it was never saved
as
a
proper WMM file, just a TMP, so that's what I'm left with, and can't
get
WMM
to read.

I can see the WMT.tmp or TMP file (actually WMT1.tmp) in 'My Videos'
folder,
and it has my project title within it. But Windows Movie Maker will not
recognise it or allow me to import it due to having lost the shortcut
link
which it seemed to require to re-open it.

Any suggestions on both getting hold of this file to open or convert to
open
into Windows Movie Maker editing prog? And also do I need to increase
my
RAM
size to resolve the low virtual memory prob? And are the two related?

I really don't want to lose all the work I've put into this, and would
really appreciate any help as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Hi Paul,

Apparently the rendering operation was interrupted by someone or
something
(most likely the virtual memory issue) and never finished creating the
movie. Movie Maker has no way of opening and finishing the TMP file so
that
particular file is useless.

You can manually adjust the virtual memory size in
Control Panel > System > [Advanced] > {Performance Settings} > [Advanced]

{Change} Virtual memory. Right now it is set to System Managed Size and
you
can set a Custom Size larger so you don't have the low virtual memory
problem but I am not sure that is the direction to go here. Instead I
would
split the project into pieces rendering them separately. (See my website
for
step-by-step instructions to do this)

The project isn't in the "Recent Projects" list but by File > Open
Project
it should be there if you saved it before rendering your movie.

In the end I re-edited and cut my losses - well I lost my cuts so that was
that. I push the program to overload I think and this is the problem. I'm
doing lots of slo-mo edits with dissolves and there's only so much of this it
can take. Now I edit the slo-mo sequence seperately and its fine - as long as
I don't make the slo-mo sequence too long! On the whole the program does work
fine but like anything else it has its limits so I've just learnt to cope
with that and modify my editing accordingly. Besides, it has taught me to be
a tighter editor!

Cheers to one and all for your help.

video and captured it in Movie Maker. After I save the project and

with
a Sony Digital Handycam. I have also tried viewing it with a projector
and
the same blurriness is there. Is there way to clear it up or capture
it
different. The setting I use to save the project it best quality. Any
help
would be greatly appreciated.

It is the finished movie you are playing back using a Media Player and
not
previewing the project within Movie Maker correct?
If you are previewing please be aware that the quality of the video in
the
preview window is not that of your finished movie.
If it is a finished WMV or AVI file then the best quality to save in is
DV-AVI available by clicking the radio button next to more options.
But if the picture is blurry and you saved to best quality WMV then the
problem is likely somewhere else.
Possibly check the record settings on the camcorder or a problem with the
firewire or card.
