|
|
Ok, Simple question. I've been converting LP albums to digital format. It was
recommended that I convert them to .wav files to insure the best audio
quality. So to insure the best audio quality of my store bought CDs I would
like to rip them as .wav files also. WMP 9, the first WMP I used, and WMP10,
the one I am using now , doesn't have that option in the dropdown box under
the "rip" Tab. Why isn't this one of the options? Can WMP11 do this ? Or do
I have to use a Roxio or Nero program to do this? I appreciate any advise
that may enlighten me as to why Microsoft/Windows decided not to have this
option available.
P.S. the only option shown that comes close to .wav is the .wma(lossless)
which isn't really lossless.

There should be an option WAV (lossless). In WMP11 there is, if there isn't
in the 10 version, then here is a freeware work-around for you to use :
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/download.html
You can also use this software to rip to mp3's using the Lame codec, but you
don't need to install it if you're only going to rip to the wav file format.
Cheers,

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately upon getting to audiograbber, the |
link to download program did not work. I kept getting blank IE page stating
problem with website or connection (regardless of which site I try to
download from). I do have both Roxio and Nero, but my concern is with all the
tag info. Using roxio EMC8 I could only get CD info 1 track at a time, could
not get track info for an entire album. In WMP10 the option were 1)WMA
(192kbps), 2) wma (variable bit rate), 3) wma (lossless), and 4)MP3. The wma
lossless is smaller in size to a true .wav file (1.411 Mbps). Choosing this
option in the dropdown box reveals that this is a "mathematically lossless"
compression, whatever that means. If this option exist for WMP11 then I may
need to use it. I'm reluctant to do so based on bad experinces I hear/read
people are having with WMP11. Would prefer not to go that route. |

Could be the AudioGrabber site is down. Google for it and you'll find it
somewhere. BetaSoftware works for me, also Tucows, but you need to do a
search "audiograbber", but you're correct, the other links don't.
I've had WMP11 since it came out, and no problems so far. I guess it depends
what you use it for. I never use if for ripping, only AudioGrabber which I
actually purchased when it was pay ware....... many moons ago. You could
also use CDEx (again Google) which also rips well but I've not much
experience with it.
Cheers,
