What I meant to ask is .. If XP in fact did look for a 'special file
name', lets say catchall.cmd, then I would write a batch file called
catchall.cmd that takes the submitted command as an argument and
process each command.

I just remembered something else. Does anyone know how to set

Hi, |
I have a similar problem. Having just downloaded a list of Windows Updates
I discovered that Windows wouldn't allow me to proceed with post-SP2 updates
unless I first disabled the automatic synchronisation in Date/Time/Internet.
Any ideas on what has caused this? Does it perhaps have anything to do with
the fact that the time changed occurred earlier this year and some systems
are confused? I noticed this the other night where I work, i.e., the clocks
were not synchronised at 2 am but some reverted to normal at 3 am (but not
all of them).
Ideas please on how I can synchronise my system again? Another fix perhaps
in the works?
Thanks! |

So you can't Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties.
And on the Taskbar tab to make sure the "Auto-hide box the taskbar" isn't

OR
Ctrl+Tab then right-click the Start button?

Remote assists works if the machine you are connecting to has a static ip
address or you use messenger to establish the help session. This is
different from the way it worked in the past. You could receive a remotes
assistance request via email or file transfer and the connection would be
established.

3/27/2007 to learn some interesting facts about the remote assistance
request. I am still unable to connect to a remote user that uses Email to
send the assistance request unless the requestor has a static IP address.
I
have a computer A running XP-SP2 behind a dlink di-604 router /
firewall.
The Dlink is connected to the internet via cable service using 1 of the 5
static IP addresses. I have computer B running server 2003 R2 on a DSL
internet connection with 5 static IP addresses. Computer shares the cable
internet connection with a SBS2003 domain controller connected to the
Dlink
router (computer C), Server2003 computer running DNS connected to the
cable
modem using a static IP address (computer D), server2003 web server
connected to the cable modem using a static IP address(computer E).
Computer
F sares the DSL connection and is the second DNS server running
server2003.
Finally there is computer G on the DSL connection running server2003. OK
here is what can and can not happen.
Compute A can connect with B or C or D or E or G either by Email or
saving
the remote assistance request to a floppy and putting the floppy in any
of
the other machines. A or B or C or D or E or G can not connect to a
computer
not mentioned above including the ones I had been connecting to in the
past.
If you establish a messenger connection, remote assistance will work if
it
is iniated from messenger even for the computers that will not work if
the
request is sent via Email or sending a file. Is there a MVP out there
that
can shed some light on this? Is a messenger connection going to be
required
to provide remote assistance?

I use Partition Magic, and all the steps can normally be done in one
step. PM makes a "batch" file of changes it needs to make and runs

Automatic Compacting, uninstall WinXP Service Pack 2.

That is exactly what I would like to do.. Never compact my messages. I
wish
to never risk my messages at all. I have plenty of HD space and I am not
worried about the space requirements, I simply want to have a choice.

It's not a problem, it's behavior you dislike.
If you want to risk corruption of your OE store (possible loss of some or
all of your messages) and run a much-less secure version of OE, go right
ahead and do that, Keven/Kevin. You'd be cutting off your nose to spite
your face IMHO.

Microsoft went to this because people didn't compact space as they
should
have. You either let things go too long (in which case you should get
the
message) or you have enourmous space requirements (do you keep ALL of
your
emails?). The prudent thing to do is to compact periodically, manually
before the message screams at you to do something you should have
already
done.

Every time I close Outlook Express, I get the following message: "to

I have read about this and I understand it does not diminish the
integrity of my messages.
However, the problem I have is that I cannot stand it when programs
like
this keep bugging me relentlessly until I do what they want me to do.
I
want to have the choice to say yes or no. This program does not give
me
that choice because it keeps bugging me until it gets its way.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me how to stop
these
annoying pop-ups. |

You may find that pop.tiscali.co.uk doesn't accept pings - www.microsoft.com
doesn't either - many places do this to restrict network traffic. |

I do things like that all the time. The best fix I fond is Window

You will fine it under Prograns, Accessaris, System Tools, System

You may have an available plug on your sound card called 'line out', this has
a separate volume slider available. Put the headphones jack in it.
start/run, type sndvol32, Options menu, run down scrolling list of sound
devices and put a checkmark in 'line out', then OK. This should give you a
dialog with sliders for both speaker, and line out (even a mute checkbox for
the speakers that would not mute the line out.)
