|

This is to enquire whether it is possible to install the converter
file to use word-processing files, written with Works 2 for DOS, in
Works 9.
Normally Works 9 does not include that converter file. (I forget its
filename, which is mentioned elsewhere in this Forum in a quotation
from the MS knowledge base.)
It is unlikely that simply adding that file to the appropriate
directory would be sufficient. The pull-down menus would have to
change, at least, and doubtless other changes would have to occur to
have Works use that conversion file.
Does anyone know whether it can be done, perhaps by changing certain
configuration files, or otherwise?
The background of this question is: I will teach a course in 2008 that
I last taught in 1993, and I want to use and update my old course
material.
The question is from curiosity rather than urgent need. I have de-
installed Works 9 for now and reinstalled Works 4.5a for Windows
(1996), which runs fine in XP and reads Works 2 for DOS files
perfectly. |

At this time it's not possible to open a Works 2 for DOS file in Works 9 --
a converter for this does not exist.
Your best bet for now (since you also have Works 4.5), is to open them in
4.5 and re-save them as .RTF. You will then be able to open these RTF files
in Works 9.
Hope that helps
