Saitek ST90 joystick issues

I plug the joystick into the USB port but the automatic installer does not
recognise the Saitek ST90 as a Human Interface Device and cannot find a
driver. I have tried the joystick on a laptop also running Wndows XP and it
loads as a generic device just as it should. Any suggestions please?
