how do I align dots before a number in a table of contents. I can align to
the right but the left gets messed up. There used to be a way to do this
automatically in Word Perfect a long time ago but I can't figure it out in
word. thanks.

I don't understand your question. Do you mean leader dots that guide
the eye between the end of the (left-aligned) text and (right-aligned)
page numbers? Do you automatically generate yr TOC?
