I have just installed the latest PowerDvd (7) on my PC
with Windows XP professional installed. It plays well,
but on exit it crashes my machine. No keyboard, not
mouse and the hard drive stops (red light showing
activity goes out) and I have to reboot.
The same thing happened with Intervideo's Win DVD (
also no problems until exit) which suggests the
problem is Windows. Anybody else have this. Anybody
know how to solve the problem. Will I have to
reinstall Windows? |

Maybe you have an issue with your video driver.
If it's a video driver problem you can verify it by
reducing your graphics hardware acceleration
as per the instructions in the following KB article:

Graphics Issues

(scroll down to: Reduce the Graphics Hardware
Acceleration Setting) (if an improvement is
realized...theres a good chance the you need
to update your video driver)
Go to the support website of your video
adapter's mfg. and search for drivers
compatible with your operating system.
If you don't know the make and model of
your video adapter...check the documentation
that came with the computer.
Also you could try these steps...
Go to...Start / Search...type...
msinfo32 ...press enter.
On the System Information screen...choose...
Components / Display / Adapter Description
You should find the make and model of your
display adapter as well as the driver version.
If the driver on the support website is more
current than the one you are running...
download it and install it. Also you should find
installation instructions at the support site.
After the new driver is installed...you can return
Acceleration to Full.

Thought of that, but I have the latest drivers for an
ATI Raedon X 1600. I update the driver every month,

Did as you said, problem still there.
Forgot to say that there is no problem with Windows
Media Player.
