Is there some way to globally shut off the creation of thumbs.db files
and occasional entrance into "icon view" as opposed to my default of
"details")?

Occasionally XP (MSIE?) slips into "Icon view"... not only is it
annoying, but it seems to leave those little thumbs.db crumbs all over
the place.

Thanks,

Regarding "...shut off the creation of thumbs.db files...: - No can do - it
is a hidden (normally) system file. Check the following:

1. Control panel - File Options.
2. Select "View" tab.
3. Under "Advanced Settings"
4. Hidden files and folders - select option to
hide.
