buddies cooked up the excuse to invade Iraq.
Iran, a former U.S. buddy, was able to get out from under the thumb of
the U.S. and posed a real threat to our supply of oil. We needed a
base close-by to continue to threaten and project military might-what
better place than Iraq- ruled by a weak tin-pot dictator.
Even though things went south because Rummy and gang wanted these
bases on the 'cheap', we will be in Iraq for years just to continue to
intimidate and insure our availablity to oil. Whether or not this is a
good strategy will only be seen in coming years. |

Actually George W. Bush has ordered the construction of 14permanent U.S. bases in Iraq.
That was one of the real reasons for the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
