If I go to a folder and choose properties the read-only box is always blue.
If I unclick the box and click apply things look like they work. But if I
look at the properties of the folder they always still show read-only.
Any idea why that is? I can still use the folder and write to it. But the
indication is always that I should not be able to.
Thanks,
Chas

Typically the Read-Only attribute is ignored by Windows, you can safely
ignore it too.

In Windows XP the read only attribute doesn't apply to folders, only files. Take
a look at this article for more info.

You Cannot View or Change the Read-Only or System Attribute of Folders
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549/

Good luck

PS. Read-Only is ignored for folders, not for files.

The read-only attribute pertains to files, not folders. The display is
misleading, but your folders are not read-only.

Thanks, That is interesting. Say for example I really do want a folder to
be read-only. Is there anything I can do?

I just saw the rest of the posts. Read-only means nothing to folders. Thanks
to all.
