Change default path where new profile is created

Hi all

When a user logs on for the first time in XP a profile is created in
C:\documents and settings.

I need to change this default path so the user profile be created in D:\users

A word of caution here: Whilst it's ok to setup NEW users with an alternative
profile location, moving the profile of an existing user is risky.

This is because some (incorrectly-written) programs refer to documents, etc
within the profile by way of absolute paths, instead of as a path relative to
the profile. For example they will internally convert "Document.txt" into
"C:\Documents and Settings\JBloggs\My Documents\Document.txt" and save that
in their settings.

Email programs are the worst offenders in this respect, although I know of
one worker in a satellite-office who lost his entire company records this
way, despite being diligent about backups. In his case the data - which he
_thought_ he was backing-up - was actually being 'dropped' into a disused
profile's My Documents folder. Since the disused folder still appeared as "My
Documents" in Explorer, it was impossible to tell that this was happening, at
least not without careful scrutiny of where the folder's shortcut actually
led-to.

Thanks for the link; it has solved most of the problem.

But really I would like to know if there is a way tha allows you to create
automatically the new profiles in the d disk; I mean when the user first logs
on the profile is created directly on the d disk.

(maybe it is not possible but the recipy you gave me solves the 95% of my
problems so It is OK)
