Before I go reinvent the wheel (again) I thought I would post here. I
need to make a small XPe system that can boot from HDD, CD & USB. It
is to be used for system maintenance (virus scan,...) and system
recovery (redeploy the XPe image or a backup image).

- Can a single image be boot friendly for HDD/CD/USB?

- Can anyone recommend the set of software components to include?

Thanks.

I don't think you can get USB boot and CD boot in the same image.

I second that. The SLX could have all the same basic core components, but
the extra components and setup for CD will be different than HDD and USB
flash.

Unless, you are not talking about a pure bootable CD, maybe something like
loading an SDI file to run the image in RAM.
