After running Spybot, one of the results was the following:

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.AntivirusOverride and the specifics are:

(SBI $3604910C) Settings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntivirusOverride.
Registry Change

Is it safe to remove this and any other changes that Spybot finds or will it
damage the registry?

Have a look here and see if that aplly to you, do you have an Anti-virus
with Firewall installed?, if you do you may need to Exclude this from further
scan.
