What can cause the strange effect that suddenly starting programs by
clicking on the corresponding document in explorer (e.g,. an
..htm(l)-File to start IE, or some .txt File to start NotePad or a .doc
file to start Word) takes forever (i.e. up to 30 seconds)? During that
time apparently nothing happens (i.e. no disk activity, not high CPU
lod, nothing). Does XP first have to collect all its guts to start an
app or what's going on here?
If I click on a desktop icon of an app, it starts up immediately. And I
can then throw the document into the applications which also is done
immediately. But starting an app (or bringing it to the foregound if
it's already loded) and opening a document by clicking on the file
itself takes endless...
