I recently worked on a document that I needed to have outline numbered
captions above the tables. Now, whenever I insert a table into a document, I
get a numbered caption. I cannot figure out where this "lives" so I can turn
it off. This is in W97.

This is an annoyance. Any ideas?

thanks

This may be different in Word 97, but in Word 2003, in the Insert |
Reference | Caption dialog (Insert | Caption, in Word 97), there is an
AutoCaption... button that opens a dialog that allows you to select which
objects should be captioned automatically. If you have Microsoft Word Table
checked, clear it.
