Has anyone out there by chance found Falcon hardware in the Charlotte, NC.
area, or anywhere in NC?

I checked the Best Buy -- 30 or so new units had just come in all
manufactured in mid-July.
Wal-Mart -- no go.
Gamestop, ditto.

Please tell me where I can get one by Christmas! Thanks.

By the way, for those who don't want to read thru dozens of posts in the
forums, seems the latest/greatest way to tell if it's a Falcon or not is to
look on the white sticker on the box for the power supply wattage; 175
watts means a Falcon, 203 watts means it could or could not be. In the case
of 203 watts you have to go to alternate methods of checking.

Forget Falcon, wait until the GPU has had a shrink before you actually go
ahead and purchase one. Falcon only features a shrink to 65nm of the actual
CPU(s) not the graphics chipset, which is where a lot of the heat is
generated during gameplay.

The same goes for the current 40GB PS3, it only features a shrink of the
Cell processor and not the RSX (still 90nm).

Before purchasing either of these consoles, wait until all the innards have
had the shrink to the 65nm process. Chips produced at this level generate
much less heat (thus increasing the lifespan of your console!) and less
power (good for mother earth and your electricity bill). That said, both
consoles are rumoured to be getting another shrink to 45nm by 2009 (catching
up to Intel) but who wants to wait that long =).

Yeah, BB's right. Falcon only has the 65nm CPU and the GPU's still
the same 90nm GPU which has been causing all those RROD because it
runs so hot, and yet MS didn't bother to design a proper and adequate
cooling system for the console.

The new mobo, Jasper, due to come out latter part of next year will
have both the CPU and the GPU in the 65nm fab form. I think then you
can sort of ease your anxiety about your 360 overheating and getting
the RROD problem.

I think it's pretty pathetic and sad that we, as Xbox 360 customers,
have to worry whether our 360 will have its GPU melt the solder or not
from inadequate cooling and whether it'll happen before the extended
RROD warranty expires.

Basically, what M$ is saying is, we know we made a shitty and
defective product, so we'll extend the warranty on the shittiness of
the defects of our product, but not extend it to a length which seems
fair, but only extend it just enough to get away with it, and also to
avoid any massive class action lawsuits that can arise from us having
put out a shitty and defective product.

Actually, any attempt at a class-action suit would fail right off the bat.

(Note - Not a lawyer)

For it to succeed, it would have to be shown that MS did nothing about the
situation, and ignored all attempts to bring it to their attention. They
would also have to show a willful disregard. MS has taken *significant*
steps to rectify the situation.

Huge failure for Xbots.

1. Xtards have been waiting for Falcon for two years now. That's how
long Micro$$$$$oft has been shipping buggy flawed consoles.

2. There's no telling if Falcon actually will fix RRoD.

Was going to take an evening and do a circuit around my part of town:

CompUSA -> Circuit City -> Gamestop (2nd location) -> Sears -> Radio
Shack -> you get the idea. Missed my exit for the first two so went on to
Gamestop. Bam! Guy there has heard of the Falcon because another guy had
asked about one previously. I asked him to look for the 175W power supply.
Sure enough he has one! And I didn't have to spend all night driving around
looking!

I had the weird experience of making the rounds on Tuesday looking
for a 360 Elite, and not finding one at any of a half-dozen stores.
Then, the very next day, I was back at three of those stores shopping
for something else, and they *all* had stacks of them. Go figure.

Pardon the interjection, but I take it that a 175W PS is yet another
indication that a given 360 is a Falcon, yes? (Aside from the lot number,
build team code, build date, heatsink and inductor layout, that is.)

That is my understanding. More precisely, a 175W power supply is a
sufficient condition for being a Falcon, but not a necessary condition.
(In other words, there are no non-Falcon boxes which use a 175W power
supply, but there are Falcon boxes which do not use a 175W power supply.)

I recently got a Falcon in San Antonio from Target. It was lot 0743
manufacture date 10-24-07. Team Fsomething, as opposed to the Csomething
one.

It also had a Benq drive.

I definitely would not go out and buy another Xbox 360 if I already had one
just to get the shrunken CPU die. However, if I wanted a 360, and didnt
have one, I would not wait until the summer for the 65nm GPU.

Less heat inside the box means less chance of failure and so the CPU shrink
helps, even if the initial problems was with the GPUs. Also. I imagine
they have addressed the GPU cooling in some way with Zephyr and Falcon, even
if its something as simple as using a different material/vendor/whatever on
the thermal paste/pad between the GPU and the heat sink.

If you have a 203W sticker on the outside you might have a Falcon or you
might have a Zephyr. If you have 175W, you definitely have a Falcon.

If you have a 175W brick, you have a Falcon.

</me checks the label on his 360's PS>

175 watts. So my 360's a Falcon.

Thanks for the tip, Kyle and Olaf. :)
