Due to my family room set-up a couch will be between me and my 360. Will
the wireless controller work well if its signal has to go thru that couch or
should I seriously consider moving (or I guess getting a wired controller is
the cheaper option)?
Thanks. |

I'm pretty sure the controllers are RF, so they don't require
line-of-sight. |

Yeah, you're right. I've accidently turned my 360 on from another room
once. Only the Wii has a need for a direct line of sight (infrared,
much like a tv remote). |

Yup, did that through two walls, a full closet, and through a large couch by
accident. And, approximately 30 feet away.

The back of the smaller couch faces the TV. The front of the couch faces
the room (for conversation) at a slight angle and the other larger couch is
on the other side of the room facing the TV (and the smaller couch). So
even sitting on the smaller couch playing, which I do quite often, will put
the back of the couch in between me and the 360 because the 360 is on a
lower shelf of the entertainment center below the TV. |

Interesting enough, the controller does work fine (because it's RF), but |
the media remote that came with it (launch unit) must be IR because it
doesn't work worth a damn with anything even close to being in the way.
That's great that it can support normal universal remotes through IR,
but why not have the supplied one support RF too? Oh well. |

Yes, the media remote is IR. Hence the little black bit on the tip of it,
and the little black senseor next to the memory card slots on the 360. |

I wonder why they don't abandon the IR completely in favor of RF, for any
and all home electronics? IR must have some advantages that I don't know
of. Maybe cheaper. |

I just got back from Fry's to purchase games and controllers. Realised that
Xbox is too old for OEM replacements. 3 out of 4 controllers are broken and
I'm not ready to retire the system.
Christmas does not include an upgrade to Xbox 360 yet.
Any suggestions?
Don't want to buy used ones from E Bay. |

Thanks,
I called a local GameStop and was told they had Eclipse wired, and MadCatz
wireless controllers. When I showed up they only had used MS and MadCatz
wired controllers. Got one of each for $14.99 and $12.99 respectively. So
system is still in use, maybe it's time to let it go, don't want to continue
buying games for it. My PlayStations had a much longer lifespan.
Sorry for appending a new thread on an old topic. I couldn't select all
these groups off of my server and was just trying to snag them for a
crosspost. Thought it would show up as a new topic. |

IR is cheaper, and most Universal Remotes are IR. When you go RF, your
going to have problems like Sony has with the Playstation being forced to
use Sony's Blue Tooth Remote for full function. Sony should have added a
cheap IR port like MS did! IR blocking, whatever can be fixed pretty
easily. You just need a better Universal Remote. One of the Logitech
Harmony Remotes for example that are IR & RF. You put the Remote RF
Receiver by all your A/V Hardware, and slick on IR emitters on all your A/V
hardware. Now your Universal remote is using RF to control all your IR
hardware. It works quite well. No need to be in line of sight. You can
hide your A/V hardware if you want. |
