Actually I do have the sample in word format but I'm not dare to upload it
to the newsgroup. Please advise if the upload is helping to solve the
problem.

William, I'm having the same problem with a Word 2003 SP1 documents loosing
their numbering when opened in Word 2003 SP3.
Did you reach a final answer as to why?
