There you go. I killed off my Roxio/Sonic stuff. Caused me nothing but
trouble. I had an extra nonexistent CD Drive showing up, too. And it was
the "default" so I couldn't use my own CD Burning software. I had to go in
and change the registry keys under Nero to point to the real, physical CD
Drive.

Good luck

Hello,

Do you have any dvd-rom emulators installed? Examples are
- Daemon Tools
- Alcohol 120%
- virtual cd

If so, that is the emulated drive you are seeing as a DVD Drive.

My system has a single CD/DVD-RW. However; using windows explorer, I
see 2 of them labeled as shown:
DVD-RAM Drive (H)
DVD Drive (R)

They show up as the H and R drive. When DVD is put in, only the H
drive recognizes the disk. Why is this the case and what do I do? When
I see the words RAM, I'm thinking that is a drive in Memory. Any help
is appreciated.

Hi,
I've been using FTM since ver.3 and now use ver.16 which I am able to run
with Vista, however, I am NOT able to access the web search results at all.
When I contacted FTM (a week of email followed by several hours on the phone)
I was told "there is no fix - you'll have to wait for the next version which
MAY be released sometime this summer."
I wonder if you have found a solution to this problem or if you encountered
it at all.

Millennium was a failed version i don't think anyone would disagree with
that observation (he say's tentatively). NT wasn't. NT was more business
orientated and that was what it was built for. As for Vista, only time
will tell but, as i've said before in my posts, software development is a
two way street. Microsoft have developed Vista but other software
developer's have been too lax to update their software and driver's. Okay
it costs the software/hardware developer money to get Microsoft
accreditation for their product and, maybe, that is the reason. However,
Microsoft is blamed for everything; if the moon fell from the sky, it
would probably be Microsoft's fault. I'll say it again while Microsoft
'is' (in my opinion) to blame for some of the mishaps with Vista the
software/hardware developer's are equally to blame for not working fast
enough to ensure their products were ready for the release of Vista.

I am in regular contact with software developer's and it has been
intimated that updates to the software on my own machine are months away.
Luckily i dual boot with Windows XP so there is no real hardship for me,
but other people have to reply upon Vista and have no option but to wait
for the relevant updates.

The OP was saying that she went from 98SE to Vista and is using an
old version of FTM. There have been 5 updates from FTM since v11.
v16 with the patch does work 100% with Vista so I would not have
thought that around $29 FTM was that expensive to update.

The OP would find many improvements to the program since her
version.

I have nothing to do with FTM apart from being happy user of it.

In-CD is part of Nero, not Roxio.
But your right, Roxio does have a virtual drive. Ans so does Sonic, which
is now part of Roxio. Sonic uses DLA and Roxio uses Drag 2 Disc.

Chances are, this is where your extra drive comes in. I believe that
Roxio has a virtual drive program called "In-CD". At least that is what
it used to be called; it might even be called In-DVD now. If you look at
the link below, Under the, "Burn Fast and Conveniently" section, the sixth
dot, "...by creating virtual drives..." That is where their virtual drive
program comes into play.

If you never use it, I'm sure that there is a setting somewhere in the
options for the software. Just try to find something that deals with
"virtual drives," and turn it off... The phantom drive to vanish.

Yup, you are correct. I never use any of those things, so I forget what
they are called. I only have one virtual drive (a real one) from Alcohol
120%. I don't need any of that CD-RW / DVD-RW trickery to make them work
like a regular HD or Floppy...

Whether or not I want to remove my network connection from my systray, I
followed your instructions and the option to uncheck "Show icon in
notification area when connected" wasn't available.

I agree that this isn't Microsoft's problem or fault but we come here to
find answers to questions such as this because we use Microsoft Windows (I
do, anyway). I have about 10 icons in my system tray and I hide them because
they're not in Services and Applications, which leaves out the option to stop
them and put them on manual. I won't go into msconfig and turn them off or
make Registry changes either. What we're basically asking is, is there a
magic formula to get the icons out of systray without uninstalling the
programs or stopping them from running in msconfig?

1. Open Regedit (Start -> Run -> type 'Regedit') (w/o quotes) or MS key + 'R'
2. Navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> lnkfile . (To speed up scroll, tyle 'l' to get you down
to the l's)

3. On the right panel, delete the following key "IsShorcut"
4. Close REGEDIT and Restart your computer.

You need to RESTART for the new settings take effect.

Is there anyway to remove the little black and white arrow icon that shows up
shortcut icons? I have some nice icons and that arrow just takes so much away

from the overall look of things.

Download Tweak UI from Microsoft's site

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

But even though you _can_ remove the arrows, it may not be wise. It
can make a difference sometimes whether you're manipulating a
shortcut or the actual program.

I've found that I can just: Right-click on the title; select "rename"
and type in a new name for the icon: "WP10", "C-Drive", "Q-Time Player",
etc. It won't remove the arrow - but does eliminate the "Shortcut to"
that takes up so much extra space. Hope that helps!

Hi,

This can be done be increasing the hight if the task bar. Right click on the
task bar and unlock it. Put the cursor on the upper edge of the task bar
and drag it up to double it's size. This will allow room for the date.

This is only one way synchronization though. I am also trying to do this,
however any new files are not synch. It only keeps track of the original
systems files/folders.

Offline Folders would work if you have Ultimate, but still haven't found a
good solution for someone who has Home Premium.
