I've had my Xbox for almost three years and now I'm getting the three
red flashing lights for "hardware failure".
Does anyone have a "SURE FIX" for this problem without sending it to
Microsoft?

I understand it would cost about $150 to have Microsoft fix it.

Thanks,
Terry

MS has actually extended the warranty specifically for three red light
failure to three years. If you can prove that it's not three years old yet,
they'll fix it for free.

If you have an Xbox 360, contact Xbox Support
(http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/contact/) or your localized version of
the above. All Xbox 360s are now covered for a three-year period on
repairs, without charge.

Is this three years from purchase, or from manufacture??

Well Considering NO 360's have been out for 3 years yet, what does it
matter? It'll be 2 years come November of this year if you got your 360 on
release day. So really it doesn't matter. Call MS and get your problem
fixed for FREE!!! There are some hacks you could try to get it working, but
they are only Temp, and it's just foolish to try them. So your without
your 360 for a few weeks. Go spend some time outside or something.

But only for three red light failures, right? I was told other failures
fall under the one-year warranty period.

Solution: Buy a PS3 or Wii (this is not a fanboy statement but rather a
disgruntled ex-customer statement).

I have been to hell and back with Microsoft support with my 360 and refuse
to EVER buy another piece of hardware (or software for that matter) from
them. It's completely disgraceful what their customers are having to
tolerate.

I agree- Microsoft is refusing to take back my 360 because they are claiming
it has been tampered with- which i guarantee it has not. I am a very
unsatisfied EX-customer. Why extend the warranty for this problem if you are
going to refuse to fix it?

How can they tell that the xbox has been tampered?

There are ways, usually from the Tamper proof stickers they put on the
system so you can't open it without screwing them up even if you think you
were carful about it. Only thing you can screw with is removing the HDD and
the front faceplate. Tamper with anything else and goodbye Warranty.
