|
|
For anyone who is unsure like I was 24 hours ago, I learned that an
XBOX live silver membership is not good enough to get online game play
with an XBOX 360, even if you paid money for that membership. It takes
a gold account. I learned this when I tried Battlefield 2: MC on my
new system and got a surprising error that mentioned a "membership
limitation" and wouldn't let me login to the EA server. It was a
"coded" error but it just meant that I needed a gold account.
Keep in mind the silver account continues to connect me to XBOX Live
on my original XBOX, it's just the 360 that requires a gold account
for online play. |

On the Xbox there was NO Gold/Silver, you either had NO Service, or you paid
for a LIVE Account. Mainly all it was good for was Online gaming anyway.
On the 360 as MOST people know by now, there's a FREE Silver LIVE service,
and a Pay for GOLD service. Really the only difference from the 2 is
Online gaming for GOLD, and I think Video Chat only for GOLD also. The
Reason for FREE Silver is to still allow users to use all the NEW features
LIVE now supports with the 360. Downloading Arcade Games, Watching TV
programs and Movies, Trailers, ect. Stuff that wasn't available with the
Xbox other then some Game Updates/Patches, mainly for Online Gaming which a
None LIVE user didn't need anyway so you weren't missing out.
The ONLY time you don't need to have a LIVE GOLD account to play online is
for any Massive Multiplayer Online games that require they're own
Subscription. So you can play that 1 game all you want. Of course it's
costing you far more money per month then a normal GOLD account for just
about every other game. GOLD works out to $4.17 a month, while these other
games are $13-$15 a month or around $156-$180 a year for 1 online game.
$50 a year is a Bargain in comparison.
I just can't believe you just NOW learned that you can't online game with a
Silver account. What planet have you lived on all these years? 6 years or
so, Online gaming on the Xbox has ALWAYS required a PAID LIVE account.
Doesn't matter what MS is calling it now. |

Thanks for that. You're very helpful, even if you did not read the
post you quoted in its entirety.
Again, I did in fact pay for my Live account, and in turn I did get
online gameplay on my XBOX (1). What I did not expect was for my Live
account (online gameplay enabled) to be recovered on my 360 as a non-
paid Silver account, but that turned out to be the case. I had to
upgrade to a paid Gold account to get online gameplay, even though the
old Live account worked on XBOX (1) before and after the 360 recovery;
and before and after I upgraded to Gold. See what I mean?
I never once even looked at paying for the massive multiplayer
services you mentioned. |

I've been a paid LIVE user since DAY 1 of LIVE going ONLINE way back then. |
I had ZERO problems transferring my paid for LIVE service on my Xbox to my
360 as a GOLD Account. In fact you should get 1 month FREE of GOLD service
from the start. It was pretty simple to do. I don't know what your doing
wrong. |

I don't know either, but I did the account recovery and ended up with
a different gamertag and a Silver. Probably a screwup on my part. |

I believe when you do a account Recovery, your Account is as is. As in if |
you haven't paid any money and no paid months left, you just go to a Silver
account. I believe you can only get your FREE month of gold with a NEW
account. So you signed up using a new Name to get your free month, and so
you ended up with 2 accounts. Most problems seem to be user error. I did
a account Recoevery, and had Zero issues back then in Dec 26th 2005 when I
got my 360. No double accounts or anything. Didn't do the free month as I
didn't want everything on the new account, but to continue on my old
account. Free month isn't a big deal, that's like $4.17, not a loss to me. |
