my thoughts on AC6, plus a small off-topic rant -

the newer batch of screens seems to suffer from artifacts / low-
resolution / high compression
resulting in a very significant drop in quality. that's probably NOT
anything to do with the quality of AC6's visuals, but the quality of
the screen captures.

Also, just my speculation here, but it is possible there's a
difference in graphical detail between the single player campaign and
multi-player online modes.


even so, going by the earlier, higher-quality screens from months ago,
it's apparent that AC6 is not a massive leap in graphics over AC5 on
PS2. but that should be of no surprise. The X360's GPU and
supporting architecure has to work 3 times has hard to push 720p,
compared to 480i or 480p resolution >>>>before the actual graphics<<<<
get any improvement. If PS2 AC5 was brought to X360 at 720p without
any visual upgrades other than resolution, that's still 3 times the
pixel/sec requirement, higher bandwidth requirement, higher RAM
requirement.

okay now is where some people will just disagree with me, say WTF are
you talking about, because they don't understand last-gen hardware
compared to current-gen hardware.



PS2 had a fillrate of 1200M textured pixels/s Xbox 360 has a fillrate
of 4000M textured pixels/s. even though that comes with the added
capability of pixel shaders beyond the shader model 3.0 spec, and 4x
anti-aliasing, HDR, and other rendering features, there's still only
roughly 3 times as much raw fillrate as PS2. with HDTV resolution,
most of that extra fillrate is used just to reach HD resolution, not
leaving much left to improve the graphics a whole lot. while pixel
shaders allow more work to be done per pixel, raw fillrate is not
irrelevant this generation, and I doubt it'll be irrelevant next
generation with Xbox720, PS4.

I'm not making excuses for Xbox 360. the PS3 is in a similar yet
somewhat worse situation: PS3's RSX GPU has no embedded memory thus it
lacks the very high rendering bandwidth that Xbox 360 has, and that
PS2 had last-gen.

IMHO, both Microsoft and Sony included GPUs that frankly do not have
enough pixel fillrate to allow a truly huge leap over last-gen, given
that they have to render in 720p resolution. People can argue that
4000M pixels/sec is enough for HD resolutions, and while it is,
fillrate is not just about allowing higher resolution. fillrate
impacts framerate, polygon filling rate, multi-pass rendering, and all
kinds of things.

IMO, both Xbox 360's Xenos and PS3's RSX should've had fillrate in the
10,000 to 12,000 Mpixels/sec (10 to 12 Gpixels) range given that PS2
was at 1200 Mpixels/s 7 years ago
and Xbox1 was at just under 1000 Mpixels 1Gpixels (932M / 0.932
Gpixels to be exact)

Sooo...what exactly are you saying? Don't buy the game? As the only
North American still playing Over-G Fighters on a regular basis, I
will be buying this game no matter what techno-speak you through at
me...the demo looks pretty amazing Smile

North American still playing Over-G Fighters on a regular basis, I
will be buying this game no matter what techno-speak you throw at
