|

I am running Windows XP SP2 with a Verizon DSL line and MSN Premium browser.
I installed Office 2007 early this year. When I subsequently connect with
the internet with either the MSN Explorer browser or the Internet Explorer
browser and use the email funcitions, I have a spell checker problem. The
problem is that I need an english-US spelling dictionary and the email spell
checker settings only allow me French (Canada or France). I have literally
spent hour on the phone with Verizon and Microsoft and each keeps bouncing me
back to the other with no help in solving the problem. Verizon tells me that
MSN said there is a compatibility issue with the Office 2007 spell checker
and they are working on it. Well, six months seems a long wait for them to
correct the problem. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Any
suggestions? Your help will be much appreciated. I have a hard time writing
emails in english--a french spelling dictionary just drives me up the wall! |

A known issue. You can reinstall the proofing tools from an earlier
version of Office if you have one, or you can install a third-party
spellchecking utility (there are many, some free, some not, just ask
Google).

The only spell checker I have available on is from Word 1997 and I think it
might be too old to be compatible with Office 2007. A third-party spell
checker is a possibility that I will explore. In any event, don't you think
Microsoft is kind of lax for allowing Office 2007 to be published without
resolving the incompatibility issue or for not coming out with a fix right
away. Also, they should have published something in all their newsletters,
etc. about the issue and their plans to fix it. Just a thought. Thanks very
much for your help garfield-n-odie [MVP].

Duwain:
I just installed today Office 2007 and ran into the same problem. I verified
all language settings in Outlook, Office, and system. Outlook looks to
Office's "Dictionary" for its spellcheck feature. I verified that the
"English" is working in Word. So, it leads me to believe there is a problem
with Office 2007 program - not Outlook. What I plan to do is reinstall
Office 2003 and use the features from the older version until Microsoft
acknowledges and fixes the problem. Gee, I wish I knew how to do
programming.;)

I ran into the same thing. I tried Dell's help chat and they claimed they
were looking into it. But they logged off and never sent an answer. I tried
MSN's help and haven't heard back. You'd think it would be addressed in the
FAQ's.
I would like to know what type recognition they give to the MSN help crew
that works so hard to dodge issues of this sort. It can't be a very rewarding
job.

Hello,
Download and install KB935520 (Hotfix Rollup for 2007 Microsoft Office
System), and then make sure the MSN Designer Mail is installed on your system.
That should do ya for.
