Hello.
I work with an 3.0 GHZ Intel dual-core cpu with hyperthreading technology
desktop system on which I run XP Pro 32bit. The machine is 64bit-ready and I
wonder: in case I'll switch to the 64bit OS, will that improve the overall
performance of the system significantly? And what can I expect in regard to
my drivers & software - will it all still run?
Thanx ahead for your reaction. |

It *probably* won't improve performance at all.
Unless you run 64-bit applications, any performance improvement will
be so small as to be unnoticeable.

Your application software--generally yes.
Drivers, no. You will need new 64-bit drivers for the 64-bit operating
system. There's the rub. Those drivers may be hard to find, and in
some cases, not available. If you decide to do this, be sure you have
all the drivers you need *first*.
