I think it did. I went to that link however couldn't figure out how to
resize the partition so that I can reformat everything.
It should be under the section Resize/Move. But if you want to remove
Ubuntu altogether and only have XP, you should be able to boot with the
XP CD and delete the Linux partition, and then create a new partition
for XP. If not, there are alternatives:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htm

I believe Bootit NG has a free 30 day trial, so you can create a CD of
it (maybe on another machine) and then remove the Linux partition.

You're welcome Aaron.

From: <ming.photographer@gmail.com>

|
| I've got problems with Isass.exe. It's a nasty virus that won't budge.
| It all started with my AV (Sophos) found a file called DDCCB.DLL.
|
| I've tried deleting it manually, CMD, in Safe Mode, everything. I even
| used Processor Explorer from Microsoft to find out what was running it
| and it turns out to be Isass.exe. When you try and kill it, it shuts
| down the whole machine.
|
| Sophos managed to quarantine the ddccb.dll file but isass.exe is still
| running. I've submitted a copy to them and just waiting to hear back
| from them.
|
| I'm stumped at how to remove isass.exe. I'm not a geek and I haven't
| got time to spend hours downloading AV, running scans, reading
| reports. If anyone knows a simpler way of being able to remove this
| pest, please, please let us know!!!

As was stated before is this ISASS.EXE or LSASS.EXE ?

DDCCB.DLL sounds like a Vundo Trojan. Is it C:\windows\system32\ddccb.dll ?

3 phase answer...

Perform Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3

It is suggested that you execute each tool in Normal Mode then in Safe Mode.

If you are using any version of Sun Java that is prior to JRE Version 6.0,
then you are strongly urged to remove any/all versions.
There are numerous vulnerabilities in them and they are actively being exploited.

It is highly suggested that you update to the latest version which is Sun Java JRE/JSE
Version 6.0 update 4 (jre 6u4)

Simple check, look under...
C:\Program Files\Java

The only folder under that folder should be the latest version.

Such as...
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04

I just started receiving e-mail files that have attachments but they are
now
getting zipped with a file extension of .epcx. It appears that the only
way
to open them is with a product by Microsoft call winzip.

WinZip is *not* a Microsoft product and has never been. WinZip is
currently owned by Corel, which is definitely not owned by MS.

My service provider
tells me its not them that is doing this as when the file is sent to me,
the
sender has not zipped the file.

Some mail systems handle attachments differently. You need do discuss with
the sender what they are doing, and what mail client and server they are
using, and what it is they are actually sending.

If you don't know the sender, delete those messages.

Does anyone know if MS is doing this

No. The file is being delivered to you as sent. It's probably being
modified by the sender's client or mail server.

If you want to check this, log into the web interface for your mail. Look
at the attachments there.

or does
anyone have any knowledge as to why this is happening. I have not changed
any
settings on my PC to warrant this change.

The problem is likely not on your PC, but if you don't know the senders and
haven't verified the contents, opening these could well install a problem on
your PC.

HTH

Great suggestion. I will temporally have all my e-mail stop at my ISP. I will then preview it there and then have them sent to my PC. Thanks for the suggestion

A copy of the Stop Error Report would be helpful.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Thanks for the ideas. How do I create such a batch file? Haven't done

Not sure what you mean by "When the service starts it will look for

boot up? Or is there some way to tell it not to?

1. I did a search for ".epcx" on www.filext.com and it brought up only that
the extension might have something to do with Music Match and a note that
this extension wasn't in the database.

2. Microsoft does not own or make WinZip. That is a third-party program made
by WinZip.

3. It is enormously risky to open attachments. You should contact the sender
and ask them what they are sending.

4. You haven't said what email program you are using. If none of the above
helps, you should post your question in a newsgroup for your email program.
If it is an MS email program like Outlook or Outlook Express, you can find
a newsgroup for them here:

Windows but a malfunction of the hardware.

Not necessarily. I have two Windows XP builds. One shows a floppy (ASmile
drive. The other doesn't. I don't have a floppy drive either (nor I
believe a floppy drive controller). I just live with it.

This statement indicates that the issue is the BIOS, XP doesn't "set the
boot order"

"Every time I reboot, my computer sets my floppy as the first boot device."

I've never heard of this or ever found files like that on my Windows

viewing all hidden files to see them.

I think your information is dubious, but you can clean temporary files with
the free CCleaner. I don't suggest using the registry management tools in

put a shortcut to a batch file to it on the dsektop,
