Simultaneous hardwired and wireless network Question

Hello everyone,

My network has about 6 devices (computers and ip cameras). I use a wireless
network mostly and I have a wireless printserver. The cameras are hardwired
to the wireless router. One computer has both a wireless connection and a
hardwired connection to the router. It is this computer about which I ask my
question.

Because of security et al the wireless connection is 54 MBps vs 100 MBps for
the hardwired ethernet connection. I need to keep the wireless on this
computer because my printserver needs it. But, I want to be using the
hardwired 100MBps network device (IP=192.168.0.25) when I do other networking
tasks.

Is there a way to specify the device of preference and perhaps give a
secondary choice (even if it's just aplicable to IE an answer is useful to
me)? Is this an application for network bridging?

Hi
According to your description there is No reason the maintain the Wireless
on the computer.
Wireless communication and Encryption is between the Wireless device and The
Wireless Router.
In addition it is better to set and configure the Wireless through a wire
connection to begin with.

Thanks Jack,

The problem is the wireless printserver. It is a Lynksys WPSM54G and I don't
know how to print through it except by using the Linksys Utility for the
device. When using this utility the printserver receives a signal directly
from my wireless pci card. When I disable the wireless network...I can't
print.

I am Not familiar with the WPSM54G.
However these type of devices should be able to connect to the Wireless
Router in an infra structure Mode.
The way you use it makes the printer work as a printer that is attached to
the Computer Not a network printer.

Jack,

You sir are entirely correct. I have discovered my that problem is the OS on
this particular computer (Windows XP 64). It is utterly incompatible with my
printserver. I have also discovered that my printserver cannot be set-up on a
TCP port. I can only work around by having another computer on and sharing
its printer. Oh well.
