|
|
Hi,
Is it possible to do a fresh install to a SATA drive that is set as
first drive and with 3 partitions and yet temporarily keep the copy of
XP on the IDE drive that is first drive at the moment?
I want to be able to take my time swapping all my programs and data to
the SATA drive.
Thanks for any info.

Well unless you do a dual boot installation you are not going to have use of
your ide winxp installtion
And to dual boot requires two winxp licences
The data is not an issue
You could I guess, with ide disconnected install winxp to the sata and use a
third party tool or maybe your bios if it has such an option to select which
hd to boot from. You may however have activation issues
Remember if you install to sata whilst your ide is connected it will install
to something other than C, whilst you boot record will remain on C
IMO Better to disconnect ide, install to your sata and after the hw drivers
and win updates, reconnect your IDE and set about reinstalling apps

Thats easy enough, however as with any OS install, unplug (physically) youre
other hd,replug once xp is running on SATA.Also, once SATA is running, after
the
replug of IDE,youre pc by default will set IDE as 1st boot priority, enter and
reset BIOS before IDE starts with xp...Also,the one option you may do,before
xp install, enter recovery (disreguard text that gets on screen),simply type:
DiskPart In DiskPart, delete the other partition(s),one at a time & after
1st delete,
create new, once all have been renewed, press ESC,type:EXIT Reboot to xp cd &
install.Partitions in a "raw state" wont get installation data that only C:
gets,
format other in xp diskmgmt.msc once the OS is running...
