Can anybody tell me if you can factory reset a 360?. I would like to have an
out of the box condition i.e. no profiles or game data left on the system.

Thanks,

Probably because of system stuff on there. Absolutely no hard drive in the
world is a "20 GB" or whatever size it claims to be anyway.

that is what i thought too, but what about the system that did not have the
20 gig hard drive. the Core system should have the same system files that
this system does. i understand that no hard drive is the size they advertise
because of the actual size of the sectors. Any other ideas out there?

Updates? I don't know what is or was on your console, but we've had a
couple Dashboard updates this year alone. Of course, each game writes a
file or files on there, too. Every game you've ever played on the system
has also written a small file to make the system aware there is another Xbox
Live-enabled game. Gamer pictures, if a video camera is connected that
would add more, and . . . Cool

i dont know what it is. i have a hard time believing there has been 6 gigs
of updates recently. the size of the hard drive was one of the first things
i checked. it was reading a total amount of 13.9 and free space of around
9.9. i understand the preloaded stuff (demo's, trial games, install
video....) take up some space but its kind of upsetting to know that out of
the box i have lost about 1/3rd of the hard drive.

LOL! The drive is actually small to start. There is probably (and I'm no
expert) a portion set aside for cache of any games, so maybe that's part of
it. I don't know.

The Core can't play Xbox games!!! Part of the software on the HDD is the
Xbox Emulation, plus Halo 1 and Halo II drivers for it, I know there's a
freebee Arcade game, and it's Partitioned for Xbox Compatibility for the
CACHE and whatnot. Also remember a HDD is never as large are you think it
is. Just look at the HDD size in your PC! You don't have all of it either.
Also Remember HDD does bytes in 1000 where as computer ram it's 1024. So
when your past bytes, into Megs and them going into GIG's, that little bit
adds up. If you looked on the top of the HDD out of it's case, it shows 20
GIG's on it because that is what it is! Which is why I got the 120 GIG
drive on my 360 as soon as it came out. Lots more room now. I have over a
Terabyte on my PC though so I keep my Music and Pictures and Videos on it
and then just stream it to the 360. Buying Large cheaper 3.5" HDD's for my
PC is far more cheaper.

This subject keeps coming up for the last 2 years. Ever since the 360 was
first released.
