Before I sent the console for repairs (3 red lights and so on) I had the
media sharing working just fine. After I got the machine back (with the
motherboard replaced) I cannot get it work. The PC sees the XBox on the
network, but 360 just doens't find the PC, no matter what I do...

Any ideas?

The Xbox 360 not seeing the PC is probably either a software firewall or
antivirus software (Norton, McAfee) blocking the access. Try adjusting that
software to "allow" the Xbox 360, and you should be good to go. If none of
that applies, check the System/Networking blade of the Xbox 360 and make
sure it is receiving an IP address which is within your Local Area Network
(something like 192.x.x.x). If it has a 169.x.x.x address, it isn't part of
the LAN so can't be sharing files.

I'm using Vista's firewall, so shouldn't that automaticly open the
nescessary ports when eneabling media sharing?

And yes, the IP address 360 gets is within the LAN.

What services need to be running on the PC in order for media sharing to
work?

Here are the results of a search in the Xbox Support section on xbox.com:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/search.aspx?keyword=windows+firewall&x=15&y=5 I
would take a good look at the first result - disregard the reference to
media connect, same thing - and also make sure UPnP is enabled on your
router. If this information doesn't help, call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and have one
of the tech guide you through the process live.

Ok, finally got this working again. Here's how, in case someone else has
similar problems;

I noticed on the event log error 14344:

"A new media server was not initialized because WMCreateDeviceRegistration()
encountered error '0x80070057'. The Windows Media DRM components on your
computer might be corrupted. Verify that protected files play correctly in
Windows Media Player, and then restart the WMPNetworkSvc service."

I searched the net for this, and found this:

http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=686560

After checking the registry I found that on my machine the setting pointed
to:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\DRM

This folder was there, but maybe one of the files was corrupted? I moved
everything from the folder to a temp folder and then restarted the service,
and Voila! Now everything works again.

I had problems at first myself. I had to track down the problem and I
figured it out. Sometimes it just takes a little time and effort.
