Hi there,
I have come across a very peculiar problem, and haven't been able to find
anything on google nor MSFT resources on it.

Users are getting a 0x0000007F stop error (Kernel Mismatch) when they try to
print Word documents that have Visio diagrams embedded on Windows XP Pro SP2.
The stop error happens on machines with Office 2007 SMB Edition as well as on
machines with Office 2003 Professional. It may be important to note that the
diagrams are out of Visio 2007. We don't have Visio 2003, so I haven't been
able to test if embeded Visio 2003 diagrams cause the stop error as well.

I have ruled out print drivers as this happens with the following print
drivers installed: HP Laserjet 1320, Xerox Phaser 8560, and Brother MFC
7820N. I have successfully replicated this problem on VMs running in Virtual
Server 2005 R2 with any one of those drivers installed.

The current workaround is to export to PDF and then print the PDF.

Has anybody come across something similar to this before, and if so, what
was the fix? If this is something new, any idea for a fix/troubleshooting?

Thanks!

Hi F.L.,

Does this happen with any Word document and any Visio 2007 objects or only certain ones?

In a new Word document what are the steps you'd use to create then insert a Visio diagram (including diagram layout size) in a Word
document? One of the fixes in the Office/Visio 2007 Service Pack 1 updates relates to a problem with objects that have in turn
embedded objects in them, although it may not apply in your scenario.

What Add-ins are you using with Word 2007.

Hi Bob, thanks for your response.

I forwarded your questions to the user and here are the answers he provided:

· I create a diagram using Visio 2007
· I select desired objects in that diagram and copy to clipboard
· I pasted clipboard contents into word doc
· I resize the diagram once pasted into word

I’m not aware of any Add-ins being used in Word and I’m not embedding
multiple times.

I am chasing on finding out whether Visio 2007 SP1 is installed on his
machine.

Thanks,
FL

Addendum:
Bob, we installed Visio 2007 SP1 but are experiencing still the exact same
problem.

Hi FL,

I wasn't able to duplicate the error. It could be a corrupted template or left over temp files, assuming the printer drivers are
installed locally.

You don't get the error printing to PDF?

The object-in-object issue wasn't from multiple separate embeddings, but, for example having a grouped object that in turn includes
a grouped/embedded object or an object with embedded data links.

Generally, unless there's a need to edit the diagram from within Word using Visio's File=>Save As and choosing one of the Vector
(EMF/WMF) formats and then in Word Insert=>Picture will keep the Word files smaller. The method mentioned below embeds the
clipboard content as Visio Objects rather than using Home=>Paste=>Paste Special to paste as a graphic.

If you can provide step by step starting with a new Visio diagram and new Word document where this occurs, that might help.

Have you run MS Office 2007 Diagnostics on a computer where this occurs?
What antivirus/security software/doc management software are you running?

It's possible that it's related to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935843
although your error is different which could indicate a different device driver/monitor.

I've had the same problem and found that if you have Visio open, you can print from Word without the stop error.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your replies.

Printing to PDF doesn't throw an error. The user has now begun exporting to
bmp and including that. He is actually quite happy with the reduction in file
size. Go figure :)

Thanks for your help.
