I just installed Works 8 on my wifes laptop (285mb??) The computer meets all
requirements except Explorer. The box says it requires IE6 and we have IE7.
When we try to print preview a report in database, the program crashes. Also,
the computer is sluggish (CPU Usage is high). When I uninstalled the program,
everything returned to normal. I reinstalled the program and encountered the
same problems. The OS is WinXP SP2. Any Ideas?
Thanks, Ron.

What I would do is use the cleanup utilities, clean boot, then reinstall.

Example of how to do this can be found at...
http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/MICROSOF/sHARED/7513181faq24.shtml

Hi Ron,

Perhaps the problem is associated with your printer drivers.

Check your printers website for latest drivers.

Do you have other printer drivers installed? If so, make one of them your
default printer for test purpose.

I use CutePDF Writer, it's drivers are compatible with my Works version 6.0.

You could download and try for test purpose.

I find it a great tool and have it selected as my default printer, If I
actually want to print on paper it is only one extra click during ==>File
==>Print process.

Here is a link to Free CutePDF Writer
http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp

You will notice it requires two downloads, install works smoother if you
download and install the Free Converter first, then download and install
Free Download.

I assume using the cleanup process you have resolved the computer sluggish
problem.

Hi Ken,
I set another printer on the network as the default printer. It worked, so
it's obvious there is something wrong with this printer. The drivers and
software are up to date. Can you think of anything else? Thanks for your help.

You're Welcome.

Honestly, I didn't think the update would help per your description of the
problem

For those who read these news groups looking for solutions to similar
problems, What printer and model number caused the problem and which
printer and model did you use to confirm it was the problem.

Both are HP printers. The Deskjet 6980 caused the problem and I used the
Deskjet 970Cse to confirm the problem. Thanks again.
