|

I have just started using Word 2007 (was using office 2003) and my spellcheck
is only catching the grammatical mistakes but not the spelling errors.
I.E. only green curlys and no red ones.
I have already ensured that:
"Do not check spelling and grammar"
"Detact language automatically"
"Hide spelling errors in this document only"
"Hide grammar error in this document only"
are ALL UNchecked.
It is not just that the automatic checker is not working. I can type
blatantly misspelled words like "hfkdgifg" into the document and manually
click check spelling and grammar. The check comes back with the "spelling
and grammar check is complete" without finding one single spelling error in
the whole document of misspellings. |

I don't know the answer for certain, but here's something you can check. Try
going to Microsoft Office 2007 Language Settings (in your start menu under
Microsoft Office Tools) and ensuring that your primary language is showing in
the 'primary editing language' box?

I figured out the problem. Instead of upgrading to microsoft office 2007, I
had both simultaneously installed. When I decided that I did indeed like the
new 2007 version, I uninstalled Office 2003. Apparently when I did this it
took with it the dictionary file.
To fix this I reinstalled only the dictionary from the Office 2003 CD. (I
just installed the proofing section from the list)
For some reason (unknown to me) the dictionary install from the Office 2007
CD did not fix the problem. |

Do you still have the install CDs from your previous version?
If you do, go through the setup and select the option that allows you to do
custom setup. You should see all the applications that you can install with
different options respented by pictures such as a disk. Expand the microsoft
word section and look through the option for proofing. Set this section to
install and the rest of the options and programs set to not install (Disk
with red x). It has been awhile since I did this, but I think this is
correct.

Thank you, it was really handy to find someone else who had the same issue.
Sorted out now!

Hello. I eagerly read the previous posts because I have the same spell check
problem, only worse. My copy of Office 2003 was factory installed and the
dictionary file will not re-install. Microsoft states that 2003 and 2007
cannot co-exist in any event, so what's the deal, folks? Do I need to go
outside Microsoft and find an independent spell checker that will function
with Word 20007, just as I had to do with Outlook 2007? Where is the company
guru when we need her? Thanks for any clues.
