PostPosted: Sun Oct 21, 2007 5:00 pm    Post subject: Re: COD2MP_S.EXE Reply with quote

I'm having the same problem with the online game as well on a PC with XP
OS. I have been playing COD2 just fine for months, until a couple weeks
ago when my son registered for Xfire, and somebody from there hacked
our key code. BTW, if you are a member of Xfire and somebody tries to
upload a file to your PC called COD2GOD, DON'T ACCEPT IT. That's how
they stole our key code. So I had to go out and purchase a new COD2
game, totally uninstall the old one from our PC, and install the new
version & key code. It hasn't worked correctly since. I'm guessing that
the uninstall and reinstall messed up some of the registry entries for
COD2 or Punkbuster. I've tried unistalling everything related to COD2,
and have even manually removed some files that wouldn't automatically
unistall, and then reinstalling from scratch with the new game. It just
won't work with online play.

Currently, I can get in and play single player just fine. Server play
will work for a while as long as it's not a Punkbuster required server.
Eventually though, it will freeze up my PC and I'll have to reboot. When
I go into the multiplayer options and "try" to change the Punkbuster
setting to yes, the PC immediately locks up, turns off the game, and
gives the CO2MP_S.exe error that everybody else here seems to have.

Any suggestions?

Hi cmspet,

If you haven't virus scanned your system recently, I suggest you do, also...
Since that problem just started happening recently, try a System Restore.

How to use Windows XP System Restore:

Thanks Jimmy. A virus scan comes up with nothing. I've tried several
times. I've also done a sys restore, and the same problem remains.
Either I've corrupted a registry entry with all of the
install/uninstalls lately, or there is a virus embedded someplace deep
in my PC that prevents COD2 from running with Punkbuster. I've managed
to get the online games to work without freezing, but only on the non
punkbuster servers. The second I try to turn on punkbuster, the game
resets itself.

I used to notice that Punkbuster would start with my PC in the
background regardless if I was playing COD or not. It no longer runs in
the background. Perhaps the version of the COD2 1.3 patch I'm using is
corrupt, and I should download it from another location.

Hi cmspet,

Yes, I would definately reinstall that patch. I think that you hit
the nail on the head when you suspected that 3rd party file ...

Hi Marilu,

Online games are usually developed using Flash, Java, or Virtual Machine.
The most likely solution to a problem with an online game is to install, upgrade,
or reinstall the right one for the game site you're playing on.

A. For Zone.com games: Zone.com are converting most of their games for Flash
to avoid the conflicts between the Sun Java system and Microsoft's Virtual Machine.
Install Flash from: http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/frameset.fhtml

B. Most other game sites still use Java. You can install Java and find more help
tips at this webpage: http://java.com/en/download/help/pogo.jsp

C. If the online game still won't load, or gives you errors, try these steps:

1. Click START / Control Panel / Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab.

2. Below HTTP 1.1 is the Sun Java/ Microsoft VM section: Make sure all Java choices
are unchecked (especially JIT) and then press [OK]. You may be prompted to reboot.

3. If you don't see a Microsoft VM section then download Microsoft Virtual Machine for:
Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from: http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

4. After you download Java, double-click the file to install it, reboot and then follow
the directions in Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other advanced options.

* Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

6. If the problem persists Adjust Your browser settings using this basic example:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/EnterRooms.html#IE

7. Try these suggestions for Zone's Java Games:
http://classic.zone.msn.com/zzzz/help/helpjavagames.asp

8. Maybe it's a software conflict: Make certain that your Firewall or Antivirus program is
not configured to block Java Applets. Norton's products for example have that option.
If you're unsure temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
Antivirus & AdBlockers using: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796
or this utility: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

9. If you have a Coffee Cup icon in your system tray (next to the time) you might have a
conflict between MS VM and Java: Uninstall Java using Control Panel / Remove Programs.

10. Check the Help / Support section of the game site in question for Java topics relevant to
that site. There is usually an email or a (non Java) help chat available as well. :-)

I recently bought a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator Deluxe. When I
installed it, it wouldn't let me activate the software and would shut down
after 30 minutes. I did the install repair, and then the uninstall and the
install again i then went to the help page and followed the directions to do
a "clean boot for XP" and then I had to do a RegEdit change to "PartMgr" from
a 0. It then allowed me to activate and play the game. Then I downloaded your
Microsoft Flight Simulator Deluxe SP1, and it told me I needed to activate
the game again. As you can imagine it won't allow me to do this. So I called
Microsoft's infamous tech support line and after we tried a restore that
didn’t work, I was told that there is nothing I can do except reinstall my
Window's operating system or call Microsoft's refund center and get a refund.

I then endevour to contact microsoft about it, but they require a product

This has been extremely frustrating to me, and I believe I'll think twice
about buying another Microsoft product.
