|
|
When I attempt to open Windows Messenger I get a message of "This operation
has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please
contact your system administrator"
I have browsed the threads here and have not found this problem.
I have checked the Windows Firewall settings. Remote Assistance and Windows
messenger are checked in the exceptions tab. I checked the services in
administrative settings, but I am not sure of which ones to play with.
I am trying to set up remote assistance so I can help users remotely.

Greetings Paul,
Usually what you're describing is a some sort of software policy which is preventing
Messenger from starting. Although Messenger has a specific policy key, it doesn't actually
bring up an error when it occurs.
As your search already found, I've never heard of anyone reporting this one -- are you able
to use Internet Explorer, access it's Options and so on? I ask because Messenger does make
use of Internet Explorer which is one of the primary applications which throws this error.

I can start Messengber by having the user go to help&support and send me an
invitation to help. This leads me to believe that either Messenger is running
in the background and I don't know it or that the request is starting
Messenger. I have checked in Task Manager and do not see Messenger running so
I suspect the latter is occurring.
I have gone to Administrative Tasks, Services and looked for the service and
been unable to find it. I also checked the local security settings, couldn't
find it there either. I think I am overlooking something there.
Messenger was available and was an Icon in the tray. It is no longer there.
