That's kind of 'wide open'.
The simplistic answers are:
Q. What is the origin of Remote Working?
A. People not wanting to go *in* to work.
Q. What is the technology needed to work remotely?
A. Hardware and *possibly* software designed to connect you to your work
data from another location.
The questions are too broad. You'd be better off with a Google Search and
figuring out what you really want to ask. The Internet and computers allow
MANY people to work remotely now - at different levels using different
technologies. But some might say the telephone/telegraph did this as well.
From running a web page/accessing files that way - to emails and even remote
desktop connectivity. File shares that can be accessed anywhere, the
security that protects those files from non-authorized eyes, etc.
Do your research on what you want to specifically discover before asking.
