|
|
In reconfiguring a Windows 2000 system to meet or exceed the DoD/USAF
Information Assurance guidelines, I used XpLite to remove a number of
services that were not used at the time.
Now we've added an additional processor card to our system and are using XP
Embedded and remote booting it. It works fine on the developmental systems
that haven't been "Info Assured"
When I install the software necessary to support the remote booting of the
additional processor card on an "Info Assured" system the "remote boot
service" won't start. It's set to "automatic" but doesn't start & when I try
to start it manually I get the following error message: "Could not start the
Remote Boot Service service on the local computer. Error 1075: The
dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion." When I
select the "dependency" tab, there are no dependencies shown.
I checked the remote boot manager (RBM) and it's set just like the ones that
work, i.e. NOT "Info Assured" & it's help says "prepare your server in
accordance with the minimum requirements specified by the Windows XP Embedded
release notes."
The " release notes" that I've found so far don't really speak to the
"remote boot service" or "remote boot server".
I'm hoping to avoid starting over with my Info Assurance of a working system
& remove stuff one at a time until I break the "remote boot service" & then
back up one.
Any help, clues, pointers -- greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to install the RBS on that downgraded Win2000 system? I guess you will face lots of troubles with the service
dependencies.
You may just want to follow the steps in this article on how to set up XPe remote boot:

"Are you trying to install the RBS on that downgraded Win2000 system?" YES
"I guess you will face lots of troubles with the service dependencies." so
far that's true. I was hoping someone had some info on the "remote boot
service" dependencies. If I figure it out, I'll post it here. So far google
has NOT been my friend, & neither has Microsoft.com's search feature.
"You may just want to follow the steps in this article on how to set up XPe
remote boot: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms838569.aspx" I
have, that article wasn't very helpful

Windows Management Instrumentation DriverExtensions is the dependency for
"remote boot service"
I RE-installed it & everything is now working.
