-- Works 8.5 does not open a Works 4.0 (4.5) file; it suggests that it is
corrupted.
After a Works 4.x file is saved to a 'csv' or 'text and tabs' file format,
and either of these is opened as an existing file in Wks 8 and saved as a
Wks8 wdb file, that file cannot be opened by double clicking the
filename---the corruption error msg appears.
However the new Wks8 file CAN be opened by treating it as an existing file
from the "Microsoft Works Database" shortcut that comes up when the
"Microsoft Works Shortcut" shortcut is doubleclicked.
The procedure in Microsoft's KB914347 was followed on 6 wdb's and did not
affect the inability to open by double clicking the filename in a directory
listing.
Is this design intent? And if not, what is the fix?
