hoping somebody can help me out here please!

im running Windows Vista Home Premium and have been streaming movies to my
xbox360 for months now, then all of a sudden (18th Nov) nothing! my pc (WMP
and WMC) just do not see my xbox anymore. i noticed that there was an update
to media centre on the eveing prior so did a system restore, still nothing. i
have tried disconnecting my WMC from the xbox and removing it from WMC and
WMP and re-connecting it. but it doesnt get past the second "detecting the
extender" stage.

i have my xbox wired into my router as is my pc and a 2nd media extender.
the pc sees the internet fine, as does the xbox (will connect to xboxlive),
the 2nd extender sees the pc and internet fine, but the pc and xbox will not
see each other.

im running windowsOneCare firewall (which i have been for ages now) i have
tried turning this off and even removed it, but still nothing. (windows built
in firewall is turned off) i have the correct ports open on my router.

what am i missing?

hopefully somebody out there has had the same problem.
thanks in advance

I am actually having the same problem... I have been for a few weeks.. I have
done reinstalls of the system and it works for a while then stops.... I have
tracked it down to the fact that even though I have my network set to a
Private network Windows Firewall is switching itself over to the public
network setting and I can't get it to switch back. So my network setting says
Private but my Firewall setting says Public. I have tried disabling the
firewall completely and it doesn't work.. Also I CAN see the xbox in my
network but can't connect and when I try to enable Media Sharing I get
"Sharing is disabled because a network connection was not found..."

Please Help! I use my Media Center as a tivo type device and I wanna watch
the shows on the tv through my 360.

at last ive got it working!!

found a tip on another forum, so after7 days of looking and trying different
things it is finally connected.

on my router, with advanced tab, within Multicast select ENABLE IGMP
MULTICAST.

after doing this my extender appeared and installed
(had to disconnect the pc from the xbox and get a new code and allow an
additional program through the firewall)

THe same thing happened to me. My media connection from Vista 64 to the 360
was good, both streaming from the dashboard and from the media center
extender. Then one day the Vista machine was gone. My old XP machine is
still usable, but the Vista machine does not appear as an available device to
the xbox 360 at the dashboard. Even more curious, the Media Center Extender
works fine. I can connect to the vista machine and stream all content. I
have two 360's. They are both on a wired lan, and they both don't see the
Vista 64 machine at the dashboard. I just updated the 360's to the Fall
Update, and they still don't see the vista machine :-(

What changed on the Vista machine? Was there a software update to perhaps
your antivirus program? When did this happen? Have you tried using a
Restore Point from System Restore to revert to the day it worked properly?
