Hi.
I'm in the middle of writing a large document with quite a lot of references,
bibliography lists, etc.
I'm quite new to all this so there might be simple things that I don't know
how to do.
1. Is it possible to create a reference to more than one source. i.e. "See
figures [1-3]"?
2. Are there more bibliography templates avaiable? I need something similar
to the ISO690Numerical template but with small changes (no dot after the
number, switch between first and last name, etc.). I think it is the PRL
method of doing it.
3. Also, Is there a simple way to edit an existing template? I don't know how
to manage 1000s of xml lines...

I can help with your questions 1 and 3. |
1. Yes, you can do this, but it isn't easy. Your example requires two
cross-references. If you are willing to have your text read "Figure 1
- Figure 3," you can number the figures by using Insert > Caption...,
and you can then create each cross-reference with Insert > Cross-
reference..., setting "Reference type" to "Figure" and setting "Insert
reference to" to "Only caption and number." If you really want
"Figures 1-3," then you will have to (a) use sequence fields to
generate your figure numbers, (b) make each one a bookmark (via Insert
| Quote: | Bookmark), and then (c) insert cross-references, setting "Reference
type" to "Bookmark" and setting "Insert reference to" to "Bookmark |
text." Look at Word's help on the Seq field to understand how sequence
fields work.
3. Open the template to edit it as follows. In the File Open dialog,
navigate to the template folder. This is probably C:\Documents and
Settings\<your name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. If that's
not right, check Tools > Options > File Locations to find out where
your templates are. Once you have opened the template itself, you can
edit it like any other document.
